Steallan and Carton were two friends who decided to join forces (and names!) to create one of the most recognizable Danish brands in functional design – Stelton. It's quite possible that this venture wouldn't have been such a roaring success if it weren't for the managing director's godfather. This was none other than one of Denmark's greatest designers – Arne Jacobsen. At his godson's urging, he designed a line of coffee and tea accessories. This collection was characterized by its cylindrical shapes, crafted from the highest quality brushed stainless steel, and featuring sleek black plastic handles. The simplicity of the Cylina-Line collection stood in stark contrast to the rounded forms popular at the time, and its success was crowned with the prestigious ID Prize in 1967.
The development of the Stelton brand was also significantly boosted by Peter Holmblad's more than 30-year collaboration with another titan in the design world – Erik Magnussen, which resulted in many timeless designs from the brand's catalog – including the famous thermos, a flagship product of the brand. Since 2004, partly due to a new owner and partly due to shifting trends, the brand has enriched its catalog with new forms (though the cylindrical shape still remains its hallmark) and new lines – including the Danish Modern 2.0 collection, a modern interpretation of products that have become canonical in Danish design.
Stelton's vision is to become the most innovative, trend-setting home furnishing brand, guided by the Scandinavian design philosophy. Stelton's offerings aim to be the first choice for anyone seeking elegant yet versatile design that enriches everyday living spaces. Stelton's ambition also extends to collaborating with the best of the best among internationally renowned designers.
