Richly decorated porcelain dishes look extremely elegant and look great in classic interiors. An interesting example of this is the Vassoio platter from Seletti's Hybrid collection, a combination of completely separate designs and rim finishes - perfect for serving two types of cake.
For a modern flat, it is better to choose a platter with geometric shapes and little decoration. The attractiveness of these dishes is largely determined by the materials from which they are made - polished stainless steel, for example. Their form does not have to be boring either, as exemplified by the Anna Gong stand. This dish is attractive in that it can be folded: it then becomes an interesting decorative element for the home, while when unfolded it is used for serving small cakes, pastries and cakes.
When choosing a cake dish, it is also important that it matches the rest of the tableware. For example, the three-tiered Traditional platter, with its porcelain and metal elements, will go beautifully with both plates and cutlery.
Of course, if it is in a similar style to the tableware, the sweetmeat tray does not necessarily have to be made of the same material.

The multitude of shapes, decorations and sizes allows us to choose one or several platters according to our taste and preferred style. It is worth knowing, however, that the form of this dish is also determined by the type of cake served on it. Cakes look best on a round tray with a leg, such as the wooden Dressed platter designed by Marcel Wanders for Alessi, which delights us with its subtle decorations.
The right choice of set will not only allow us to properly display the different types of cakes, but will also influence the appearance of the entire table. The four-tier Floating Earth platter, shaped like a tree, will certainly give the table an unusual look.
This type of platter is best suited to serving already cut cakes or small pastries. At the same time, they are very practical, as they take up very little space on the table and are very capacious on their own.
If you are planning a sumptuous buffet party, a cake plate with a lid, such as the one from the Tiffany collection, made of transparent plastic in pastel colours, may come in handy. The cake served on it will not lose its freshness during the hours of partying.
We can, of course, arrange our delicacies on trays or plates, but it is not the same as presenting a delicious (and beautifully decorated) cake on a platter created just for this purpose. Besides, such beautiful objects of everyday use make social gatherings more pleasant and can become a pretext for interesting conversations. They can also add a festive touch to those moments when, in solitude, we want to enjoy a piece of cake saved "for later".
