Karst

We could kill trees too. But why should we have to? With these words, the story of the Australian brand Karst can begin. Its creators decided not to take the easy way out, i.e. making notebooks paper (or at least not the cellulose kind). They decided to create notebooks made of... stones. Sounds like a pipe dream? Perhaps, but it works. And it works perfectly!

Karst notebooks are made from recycled calcium carbonate (the mining and construction industry produces a lot of waste stone!). The crushed stones are mixed with a binder (non-toxic resin) - the resulting stone paper is smooth, bright and durable, and on top of that, waterproof. It is definitely harder to tear than 'ordinary' paper, but at the same time it decomposes in no time and does not litter the environment. And oh, there's the icing on the cake! Stone paper production is more environmentally friendly - no water, trees or toxins are used, plus it leaves a two-thirds smaller carbon footprint than cellulose paper production.
