Reminiscent of an octave, which is a way of notating the octave, the Octave collection is the result of a search for an ideal, harmonious form that is not only pleasing to the eye, but also functional. The series' designer, Abi Alice, is also passionate about mathematics and its relationship to music, which results in the forms she achieves in her work on the objects. The Octave series is also the result of the designer's mathematical considerations, which led her to focus on the ellipse shape and the 2:1 ratio between the two main parts of the vessel. Like the designer's other designs, the dishes in the Octave series are made from a piece of stainless steel, laser-cut and then bent and polished by hand.
