Appearance as described. The countdown works, but the alarm does not ring when the time expires. It works when mechanically turned to zero, but when it counts down on its own it unfortunately does not.

Everything would be perfect and ergonomic if the top case for settings was divided into 2 parts - a movable one for turning and a static bottom one for holding. Otherwise everything ok. Jan Siedkce

Answer:
Winding and tensioning: you turn the top half of the timer counterclockwise, which tightens the internal spring and stores potential energy.
Timing setting: During winding, the knob is turned to set the desired time (e.g. 10 minutes). This determines how tightly the spring is wound.
Time lapse: When released, the spring releases energy evenly into the gear train. These gears move the pointer, which counts down the time on a scale from 0 to 60 minutes.
Signal: When the pointer reaches 0, the mechanism triggers a small bell that sounds an alarm to signal the end of time.
