Paolo e Francesca & Beatrice are part of a collection of figurines by Massimo Giacona, created for the A di Alessi catalogue with the 'Divina Commedia', a work by Italian poet Dante Alighieri, in mind. The 'Divina Commedia' series aims to bring the silhouettes of the poem's characters, their fates and the emotions surrounding them to users of modern design. The two hand-decorated porcelain figurines presented here depict the poet's beloved Beatrice (symbol of sacred, ideal love) and the lovers Paolo and Francesca da Rimini (personification of impure, secular love) locked in the second circle of hell. Created in the style typical of their designer, Massimo Giacona, the figurines are characterised by playful details and careful finishing. All of this makes the figurines from the Divina Commedia collection an excellent gift for lovers of classical literature, collectors, as well as, which was the original idea of the collection's creators, an incentive for children and young people to get acquainted with Dante's work. In a word - divine!
