Wine storage at home - create convienient conditions for bottles

When we have managed to choose the right wine in the shop, we must take care not to spoil the taste of this noble beverage by inappropriate transport and storage. Wine requires care and the right approach to fully enjoy its taste.

Transportation harms

It is inevitable that wine is disturbed during transport from the store, so it should absolutely not be served immediately after it is brought home. The bottle must be left to rest for at least 24 hours to allow the stormy sediments to fall to the bottom.

You must know that not all wines like long ageing. The myth is that the older the wine, the better. Of course, this principle is true for some species (about 5% of the wines produced), but for the most part, long storage can spoil the taste and aroma. Therefore, most often ageing only serves to allow the wine to "calm down" after transport shocks.

Wine that keeps the level

Nevertheless, the way the wine is stored is important. Note that in good wine stores, unlike supermarkets, wines are always in a horizontal position, in cool and dark rooms. We should create similar conditions for them in their own homes - this is especially important for old quality vintages. The best solution is to have a small wine cellar. But unfortunately, it is known that not many of us can afford it. That is why it is important to provide wines with optimal storage conditions within individual possibilities. We should also remember that wine will be better if we take care of it with the use of special wine accessories - we will plug up the wine with a cork and decant it with a decanter before drinking it. The choice of glasses is also important.

Take care of the temperature

The first rule is a fairly constant room temperature, which should not exceed 18°C - the heat speeds up the ageing process of the wine, which shortens its shelf life. Therefore, wine should not be kept in the kitchen, which is exposed to large temperature changes. It is better to place it in the dining room or in the living room, in a possibly shaded place. The second rule is to ensure proper lighting. The dark glass of the bottles do not completely protect the drink from the harmful effects of light, so we should not expose it to sunlight, especially the light of fluorescent tubes and halogen lamps. Under the influence of light, the wine ripening process is accelerated and harmful sulphur compounds are produced, which give the so-called "light taste" effect. Remember the right temperature when serving and get a cooling bucket - not only will it take care of the right temperature of white wine, but it will also look great!

Another important rule is to keep the wine in a horizontal position. This ensures that the cork is constantly moistened. In a dry cork, micro-slots are formed, through which oxygen enters the drink, causing unwanted chemical reactions. As a result, the wine loses its freshness and in extreme cases acquires an acidic, acetic taste and an irritating aroma.

Bet on... the stand

To ensure that the wine can lie down comfortably, it's worthwhile to stock up on special wine racks to keep it in a constant horizontal position. FormAdore offers a wide range of bottle racks, suitable for both wine cellars and living spaces. The modular wine racks are the perfect choice for holders of a larger wine collection - simple modules can be used to build a structure of the right size to accommodate any large collection of valuable bottles. There is also something for lovers of intriguing, modern forms or minimalists.

How to wine taste?

The art of proper wine tasting is as important as the quality of the wine - even the best wine will taste bad if you don't know how to evaluate its taste.
