Grandma Design. Things that don't age

If you associate the term "granny" with tastelessness, it means you have to do your homework quickly. Good design does not age and nothing dies in fashion. When there's a lot of old-fashioned items in the shops, just visit your grandmother and you'll see what true vintage style is. The most fashionable things are sometimes at your fingertips! We will tell you what motifs to borrow from your grandmother and what grandparents' items to leave for yourself.

In fashion as in nature, nothing gets lost

In recent years, we have been looking at white walls and minimalist design under the scandi sign in interiors. Scandinavian interiors look great, but the house is not only about good looking, but really about resting, loving, cooking, sleeping on the couch, and making parties (these actually depend a lot on the kitchen, because the best part of the party takes place there and it's not only because of food). So how the house should look like... for a happy and comfortable life? Exactly as you want it to! It is important that you feel at home (because you are, unless you rent a flat - but then you are a little bit at home as well, trust us).

The cosy ambience is provided with such arrangements as natural boho or sentimental vintage. However, instead of mindlessly following the fashion, think about what you associate with warmth, peace and safety. Hot tea in an old-fashioned tableware, the smell of freshly baked butter cakes, a patterned bedspread on the couch, wooden floor panells? The latter can be left where it belongs, in the '90s, but there's something that has everything else in common: the Grandma. Everything about Grandma is nice, warm, safe, and sweet as fried doughnuts. Homemade. And that's how you can inspire yourself by creating your own place on earth! So it's worth keeping the treasures from your grandparents or collect them yourself, so that one day you can pass them to your grandchildren.

retro pots & pans

Retro design doesn't have to be boring! Both, we and our grandmothers like these pots.

Wooden furniture

The first thing to look for when you're at your grandparents' is the furniture. Especially these made of wood. Sometimes you may want to laugh when you hear that everything used to be better: food, winters and people, but at least this may be true about furniture! Of course, nowadays you will also buy high quality tables or chairs (for example, from uswink), but if you have old wooden furniture from your grandmother, which survived holidays and weddings, it would be a pity if they did not survive you and your drive to throw things away. If their condition is not the best, remember that you can give them a second life! Don't you know how? Sometimes it is enough to sand, paint or oil a wooden table to make it look like a new one. In more difficult cases, don't hesitate to look for answers to your questions in the place where nearly all the questions are answered, that is, feel free to use Uncle Google. And if you don't have such furniture, you can always be the first in the family to get wooden furniture for life. For example, a table like this one!

Porcelain cups

Another thing that never stops being fashionable is porcelain. Hand-painted grandmother's porcelain cups will make a sensation among all friends who will be honoured to hold them in their hands or at least look at them through a cupboard glass. Perfect, as delicate as the butterfly's wings, porcelain is an investment for years - and if your grandmother has made it, then that's better for you!

But to enjoy family treasures, you need basic knowledge. Tea cups are wide, relatively shallow and expanding upwards. The right shape allows them to develop their full aroma. The coffee cups are narrower and taller so that the infusion has as little contact with the air as possible, keeping it hot for longer. Make no mistake and don't embarrass your grandmother!

And if you create your cup collection from scratch on your own, then go for the classics. Coffee and tea are the silent heroes of your day, so they always look good when they are all white. For those looking for something more original than white porcelain, there are painted cups in a variety of patterns and colours. Choose the ones that not only you like... but also your grandchildren do... wink

Stoneware tableware

Even if scandi reigns in Polish homes, wabi-sabi rules the tables. Stoneware dinner plates from various sets, chipped, rustic platters or retro-style enamel cups conquer Instagram. This trend was well known by our grandmothers, who ate their daily meals on stoneware or metal enamel tableware, setting their porcelain sets aside for a special occasion. So if you want the plates that look like handmade ones and create a cosy ambience inside, get yourself a stoneware tableware.

And don't forget the metal cups! Nothing like them brings back your childhood memories. They are very durable, have a lovely retro look and are suitable for both cold and warm drinks. Your grandmother may have heated milk in these cups on the tiled stove wink You can also serve tea in special glasses with a basket, known by everyone who was born before 1990. Believe us, these modern ones look really stylish!

Solid baking moulds

Everyone knows that the best cakes are baked by Grandma. Of course you can believe that you just magically acquire confectionery skills once you become a grandmother, but we have a better explanation for this.

Is the secret of delicious grandmothers' cakes hidden in her extraordinary abilities?

But if so, why didn't anyone in the family inherit them?

Or is it hidden in the best recipes?

But for some reason cakes made from Grandma's recipe don't come out as well as hers...

Or is it just about Nordic Ware moulds?

Cult baking moulds made of forged aluminum owe their rightful fame to their elegant shapes, thanks to which we get refined, excellent baked goods: perfectly baked and perfectly... in shape. So if you've always wondered what is the secret to your grandmother's perfect cakes, it's quite possible that it is Nordic Ware! So next time you're struggling with sweet baked goods, leave the silicone mould in the cupboard and choose a rather solid metal Bundt cake mould. Don't you have one at home? Luckily, FormAdore has a mould for every cake you can think of.
